Shero is a genius

Ray Shero is a genius.

We know this already, but what happened this morning was absolute genius.

Darren Dreger tweets Sidney Crosby plans to extend his contract Sunday with the Penguins for "$100M plus, with an AAV of about $9M." Later, Nick Kypreos reported "Done Deal. 12-year, $104.4M deal. Annual cap hit of $8.7M." He didn't even take a raise.

But why would this information get leaked now? Isn't it obvious?

Ray Shero is a genius.

By getting the information out there well before free agency signing starts on Sunday, guys like Parise, Suter, Nash, PA, and any other UFA out there now know how high Shero is willing to write a check for.

The cards are on the table, boys. When Shero comes calling Sunday at 12:01 p.m. you better be smart and answer correctly. The money already being tossed around for signings is and will continue to be absurd. But not for Shero. The glass ceiling is set at $8.7M.
