Brooks Orpik Back in the Lineup For the Pens

In the spirit of Halloween who wants some free candy? Pittsburgh Penguins' defenseman Brook Orpik is back in the lineup tonight making his season debut against the Montreal Canadians.
Orpik is a key player for the Penguins, although some less knowledgeable hockey fans wouldn't recognize that. Orpik is a stay at home defenseman who contributes offensively sparingly, having 23 points his career season high.

Orpik was a key member of the Pens' 2008-2009 Stanley Cup Championship team and won a silver-medal with USA in the 2010 Olympics.

Orpik is a valued leader and teammate in the Pens' organization and should provide a big boost defensively tonight and for the rest of the season.

Orpik is usually paired with the currently suspended Kris Letang so I'm not sure who he will be paired with tonight. My guess would be either Ben Lovejoy or Matt Niskanen.

Once Letang comes back the Pens will once again have arguably the best top two defensive pairings in the NHL. Orpik and Letang being one, Paul Martin and Zbyenk Michalek being the other.

Orpik is also a big reason why Letang is able to play the way he does so effectively. Orpik's positioning and defensive responsibilities allows Letang to be much more confident offensively, joining rushes, and trying to create scoring chances.

While Orpik has never made an All-Star team and may never, his value to the Pens is priceless. Orpik is probably one of the seven or eight most valuable players to the Pens.

So who's ready for some free candy?!

Go Pens!

According to Bylsma this morning, Brooksy will be paired with Engelland, with a bit of Lovejoy and that other one mixed in. I can't wait to see that Orpik/Engelland pairing. http://penguins.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=596708
